meet Ash
Florist; Artist; Flower Nerd
My obsession with flowers is abundant and consumes almost all my creative thoughts. Nature is embedded in my earliest memories as a little girl - I was endlessly captivated by the enchanting illustrations of Shirly Barber’s fairy collection, the pages Frances Burnett’s ‘The Secret Garden’ and the many worlds of Enid Blyton’s ‘The Magical Far Away Tree’.
As a relentless daydreamer, my five-year-old imagination would run wild of an evening, before I woke up the following morning to climb the tall trees in my backyard, hoping to live out my own fairy-tale when I reached the top.
What I found up there was mostly bright blue sky, but a girl can dream – and what I dreamed of was magic.
My desperate desire to live out the life of a fairy princess in a flower crowned treehouse quickly turned to day-long adventures, foraging through nature to create interesting flower arrangements and messy craft projects to enjoy at home.
It connected me to a world outside of my own, a magical place that made me feel a sense of whimsical adoration.
As a Wedding Florist, my design process is defined by curating that same essence of magic for my couples. I delve deep into the vision of my client and take immense joy in crafting it with complete creative freedom. I focus less on the exact flower types and stem counts, focused purely on the experience the flora will provide – the feeling the scene will create.
The floral experience I create starts with an idea; a deep appreciation for the visions that only exist in a distant dream. My initial conversation with couples is always a vibe check, making a mutual and conscious choice to invite each other into our own respective worlds.
For the months ahead, I will give you the space for your imagination and ideas to ferment like a fine wine. Our consultation 6-8 weeks out from The Wedding is where we discuss the juicy details, and the vision begins to unravel. During a relaxed conversation, we discuss the warmth and whimsical emotions you want to evoke from your florals, the meadows you want to walk through and the indulgent, tumbling tablespaces you want to share your meals at with your favourite humans.
My couple’s give me a brief – describe a mood – share secrets around sentiments and memories associated with flowers and then they leave me to make my magic.
As part of my creative process I source local, organic stems from the Sydney Flower Market, the week of each wedding.
It’s my sacred tradition – I rise at 2am, whilst the world sleeps. I journey through the dark for the privilege of stepping into a chaotic, messy, extraordinary world privy only to those who hold close relationships with esteemed growers. I frolic through an abundance of fresh flowers, catching up with old florist friends and exchanging inspiration with new ones. As the sun peeks over the city, I load my van with careful, joyful attention to detail, grab a coffee for me and my fellow flower lover and cruise back to my studio as the world wakes up.
I make my choices based on quality, texture, shape and movement, seeking out the natural beauty of unique flowers that will make a special contribution to the overall aesthetic. I’m always inspired by perfect imperfection – twisted stems, ruffled petals, the enchantment of nature in all it’s unforced beauty.
There are multiple moving pieces in the world of weddings, and I take inspiration from them all; The materials and aesthetic themes designed by the Stylist. The venue, it’s location and idyllic surrounds. The space and how it lends imagination. My couples and their woven stories. There’s something special about transforming a pebbled arena into a meadow that sprouted momentarily, just for one day - a once in a lifetime gift from me, just for you.
Film and Foliage designs are thoughtful and intentional, with sustainability acting as our foundation for growth. While we adore the beauty and magic of flowers, we understand the importance of nurturing the ground in which they grow. With a deep respect to mother nature, we work hard to practice earth-conscious design. A wedding signifies your commitment to the future, the life you will build together. As your florists, our commitment to the future is nurturing the earth in which your wedding arrangements were grown, so we can enjoy a beautiful and rich world, where flowers continue to bloom.
my Mission is to design with

“Ash from Film and Foliage did the most incredible floristry for our wedding. She was so helpful from the very beginning, helping us to put together ideas for our we wanted our ceremony and reception to look like. We have admired Ash’s work for a long time, so suggested a colour palette but asked her to be as creative as she liked, and she absolutely blew us away. The flowers were so dreamy, and her creativity is second to none. We were even able to take down the flowers from the reception the following day and have them packaged up for our guests to take home and enjoy. Three weeks later and they’re still beautiful!”

“Ash is truly one of a kind and ridiculously incredible at what she does! We were lucky enough to book Ash for our wedding at Krinklewood Vineyard and it was one of the best decisions we made in terms of wedding vendors. I discussed with Ash the style of florals we liked, and what she did on the day just blew us away. She was so flexible and adaptable in what ended up being a rainy day where plans changed. Her communication is excellent and she made the booking process so easy and enjoyable. She is also just a genuinely kind and lovely person to work with.”
